Those campaigns can be very effective: More people will give more money because of them. As long as they know their dollar will go farther and provide more help.
Watch how the American Lung Association tells people about a matching campaign. They do a good job getting the word out PLUS sharing and showing the impact of a donor’s gift.
Many organizations save these types of matches for high volume giving times, such as end of year. Knowing that’s a big time for giving, they roll out a matching campaign to motivate more people to give more.
So if you’re gonna use matching as part of a campaign, don’t forget to use show and tell to mobilize people to give!
